Welcome to Wild & Verdant Flowers

Hello and welcome! I’m so glad you’re here.

I’m Madelyn—formerly a corporate pharmaceutical researcher, now a flower farmer, and

very  happy with the change. After 30 years in Corporate America doing meaningful and

rewarding work, it was time for a change of pace.  A change that brought me back to my

roots of loving nature, animals, and flowers. I’m a veterinarian by training and a lifelong

perennial gardener. In 2020, I purchased 12 acres of historic farmland in East Haddam,

Connecticut, now known as Stonefield Farm. Nestled along the Eight Mile River, this land

immediately captured my heart. Restoring it has been a gradual, thoughtful process—one

that includes establishing flower fields not just for beauty, but to support pollinators,

improve soil health, and bring new life to a working landscape. In 2024, we expanded by

adding three additional acres from a neighboring property, continuing the long-term work

of rehabilitation and renewal.

I’m not here to teach or pretend I have all the answers. Farming is a constant lesson in humility, experimentation, and paying attention. Wild & Verdant Flowers exists to invite you into that process: to share the joy, the challenges, and the seasonal rhythms of growing flowers in a way that honors both the land and the people who enjoy what it produces.

About the Farm

Wild & Verdant Flowers is located at Stonefield Farm, a 15-acre stretch of historic farmland bordering the Eight Mile River. This remarkable river is one of only 200 in the country designated within the National Wild and Scenic Rivers System, recognized for its outstanding scenic, ecological, wildlife, and historic value. The presence of this river shapes how we farm—encouraging practices that protect water quality while allowing flowers and native plants to thrive alongside agriculture.

The farm is a mosaic of ecosystems, including wetlands, pasture, rocky ledge, and carefully

integrated flower fields, including a half-acre peony planting. These flower areas are designed

to work in harmony with the surrounding landscape, providing habitat for pollinators and

beneficial insects while adding beauty and resilience to the farm as a whole.

Stonefield Farm is home to a small family of domestic animals—horses, cats, and a loyal guard

dog—as well as a diverse array of wildlife. We share the land with owls, deer, bobcats, coyotes,

rabbits, hummingbirds, great blue herons, and even the occasional bear. The flowers are part

of this shared ecosystem, helping maintain balance and inviting life of all kinds into the fields.

Everyone has a role here, and all are welcome.

Preserving the purity of this land guides every decision we make. We do not use poisons or chemical treatments on the farm. Instead, we rely on sustainable, eco-friendly practices that recognize the connection between soil, water, plants, animals, and people. By growing flowers seasonally and responsibly, we aim to create something that is both beautiful and beneficial—flowers that reflect a healthy landscape and a thoughtful approach to farming.

Wild & Verdant Flowers is rooted in stewardship, community, and the belief that growing flowers can be an act of care—for the land, for local ecosystems, and for the people who bring these blooms into their lives.  We invite you to connect with the land through the flowers it produces—at markets, in gatherings, and in everyday moments.
